Srinagar, May 27 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir government is mulling to launch a door to door ‘Awaz’ program to visit the families in both rural and urban areas to counsel the youth about ill effects of drug addiction. A senior officer who wished not to be named told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the village-wise awareness programs shall play an essential role in the eradication of drug menace. He said that door to door "AWAZ" is required to be launched in all rural/ urban areas for which the government is planning to rope in Sub Divisional Magistrates, Health Department and Social welfare department to make the program successful. He said that ICDS and Health departments in collaboration with PRI members, influential persons of the villages, Imamas, Masjid Committees have been directed to visit at least five families each day as of now. The other directions include that 20 minutes lecture shall be reserved in each Gram Sabha and Thana Devas events for the purpose and all SDMS in collaboration with DDCS/BDCS and PRI members shall hold meetings in the ill affected areas. "On the supply side, Law enforcement agencies, Police, Revenue, Excise, Drug control Department etc have been directed to work in coordination and put all efforts to stop illegal trafficking of drugs, cultivation of Illicit crops besides identifying drug mafias/repeated offenders for action under PIT NDPS Act," he added. "Enforcement agencies have been directed to Identify plots where illicit crops have been cultivated, take action against involved cultivators, register FIRs against involved cultivators, destroy illicit crops, identify accused and arrest them, assets gained by the drug Mafias as Narcotic Proceed and quality investigation," he said—(KNO)
